Canadian Thanksgiving Egan Style

It hasn't been every year, but I just love sharing Canadian Thanksgiving with my Canadian-hearted bosom pal Heidi and her family!  The plan this weekend was to get up and go early Saturday morning... early... does 10 am count as early?  I didn't think so.  We drove to the Museum of Play in Rochester and we played, hard.  We went upstairs for the first time - we'll have to check out more of it another time, we lost Alice for a little bit - more like I lost Alice, then she went to Ken... but we still had a great time.

After the museum we had dinner at Wendy's, picked up a few items from the grocery store across the street, and drove the rest of the way to Heidi and Todd's.  The girls played for a bit, then it was bed time.

Sunday was of course church.  It was their Fast Sunday - being the week after General Conference.

There were two sisters visiting the area from Ottawa, and Heidi invited them to join our Canadian Thanksgiving dinner.  The afternoon was spent preparing the feast.  We pealed, cut, chopped, baked, and cooked all afternoon, and there was a magnificent feast!  The talk was lively and interesting as we were regaled with stories from the Ottawa ladies.  (The know Jen and Eric of course!)

Monday, I wanted to go to the Joseph Smith farm and visit the grove.  We hadn't taken Fiona there yet, and I really wanted to, so we did!  It was such a beautiful day.  The sister missionary spoke with the girls, taking time with out little ones and bore such a sweet and powerful testimony of Joseph Smith to them.  He wasn't a perfect man, of course he wasn't, no one is supposed to be perfect, only Jesus Christ, but he did so much good in his life.  We had a lovely time walking around.  Then we drove into Palmyra for pizza and a quick stop in the bookstore.  This was of course also "see you soon" Heidi.  Whenever soon will be.  I am so grateful for sweet, wonderful friends, and for the gospel, and holiday weekends with family!

Thank you Egans for an amazing Thanksgiving weekend American style!

Bye bye White Car, Hello Honda Fit!

There's comes a point in time that you just don't want to keep putting more money into an old car, it's just time for a new one. That time came for the white car ages ago, but we held on, and thank goodness the white car held on. Not well, the noise the breaks made was obscene, but it kept going.

As soon as September hit Ken started bugging me to go car shopping - which we did on September 12th, and we bought a FIT. The BOB fit in the FIT. The girls fit in the FIT. The FIT fit our family. HA! I'm so funny. Okay not really, but we finally got the fit this week and it was time for the white car to go. I didn't feel like I could sell it to anyone in good conscience so the white car, the Chevrolet Optra became a Kidney Car - a charitable donation to be sold for parts.

The white car got picked up on Saturday.
The girls like the FIT! I finally remembered to take a picture!

Chudleigh's Apple Farm

It's conference weekend, and while I love to watch each session as it happens, I also know that this is not ideal with young children.  The weekends that we've tried to stay in and watch all four sessions are nutso.  With that in mind I wanted to do something Saturday morning, and then be home for the four o'clock session.  We talked about going to the Markham Fair with the Lim-Andersons, but the girls and I had just been to the Beeton Fall Fair, and I really wanted to go apple picking.  I love Chudleigh's and if we didn't go today, I wasn't sure when we'd make it.

It was cold today.  We probably could have worn our winter coats.  Thankfully there's lots to do and keep you moving.  We played on the slides, the hay bales, in the maze, went for a pony ride, visited the animals in the petting farm area, and then picked some apples.  It was great.  We survived the cold!  When we were washing our hands after petting the animals and visiting the bathrooms, Kate thought she was going to die, but we survived!

I love going to Chudleigh's.  I think I said that already, but just looking at all the pictures again makes me so happy!  After the farm we went to McDonald's, ate lunch, the girls played, and then home.  We didn't quite make it for the 4 o'clock session... I think I started watching at 4:30.  But we still watched, and we still had a wonderful day.  Ken went to Priesthood session in Orangeville, and the girls and I had a quiet night at home.  I'm so thankful for my family, for general conference, and apple farms.
