Anniversary Number Four

December 28, 2006. We've been married for four whole years! And I still feel like a newlywed. Is it too mushy to say that I think Ken is the best husband ever?! Being married to my sweet Ken is the best - happy anniversary to me.

McCartney Family Christmas

Boxing Day was spent in Codrington at the homestead of Ken and Chris McCartney. How many Kens is too confusing? Don't ask! The cousins had so much fun playing with each other. Meagan delighted us with her flute playing, the boys played with their cars, Caitlin carried Anders around all night, the dog only ate one chicken finger and one piece of ham, the food was amazing (as always) and everyone enjoyed visiting. We missed Laura, Keenan and William who were unable to come down from North Bay. I also seem to have missed photographing my Ken and myself of course.

Ken and I cooked our first turkey! We made Christmas Dinner for my brother Andrew, and my Mom and Dad. We had a traditional menu of turkey, mashed potatoes, squash, stuffing, gravy, cranberries, dilled carrots and waldorf salad. We finished the meal with Ken's awesome pie.

Christmas Lights

Below are two houses that have attracted lots of attention in the Toronto Area. The Lindsay house we've known about for a few years but we only discovered the DeSario house this year. Ken and I were watching the news the other night and the weatherman was in front of the DeSario house and he mentioned it was at Keele and Sheppard and I decided that Ken and I needed to find it. And with the all-knowing-gut we found it. (Okay perhaps that sounds bizarre and confusing... let me explain. I didn't know where exactly the house was but I knew in my gut that we could find it. AND I knew in my gut it would be in the north-west section of Keele and Sheppard and we drove around and the gut found it!)

After we had Christmas Dinner with my parents we took them on a drive to see the DeSario house. Mom and Dad both loved the lights. Mom especially loved that they had a manger scene. What's really neat about both houses is that they have donation boxes and they both collect money for charity. I love the lights of Christmas!
This is the Lindsay House at 4 Rosea Court in Thornhill. Their lighting display is amazing. Two brothers work together and design the light show to go with music. If you go to their website http://www.lindsaylights.com/index.html
you can watch a video of the music and lights. We were lucky to go there when it wasn't too busy. According to the website they now have a policeman directing traffic and it can take up to 45 minutes to drive by the house to see the light display.
The DeSario Family live at 165 Benjamin Boake Trail in North York. Their house and yard are completely covered with lights. They collect money for Sick Kids Hospital. The house is only a few minutes away from us.

Merry Christmas

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

Amercian Thanksgiving Dinner

Nothing says thanks for dinner Grandma quite like putting the bowl on your head.

Hair Cuts Ken Style

As part of the American Thanksgiving fun the Bates Boys received haircuts a la Ken. They look pretty cute. It will be fun to watch grow out!

The Bates Boys Visit the Ontario Science Centre

The Ontario Science Centre is just one of the coolest places to go with kids in Toronto. It's the best science museum - for kids, that I've been too. The boys had so much fun. The location is beautiful too. It's fun to go in the summer time and walk around outside. There was a marvel comic book show and Isaac and Joey got to lift a car (no photo proof but it really happened), see the Incredible Hulk's brain, and swing around like Spiderman. The photos were all taken in the children's area - specifically for children under the age of 8.

Rockin' out man!
Where did Thomas go?

Kirtland Trip

On November 3rd and 4th we took the Young Men and Young Women on an overnight trip to see the historic sites in Kirtland, Ohio. It was a really fun trip. We drove down on the Friday evening and spent Saturday visiting the Newel K. Whitney store - now part of "Historic Kirtland", the temple, and the Johnson farm. I know the kids had fun and I know they even felt the spirit. There's an incredible feeling at the church historic sites. It's fun to live so close to some of them!

Pumpkin Fun

Ken had a nap this afternoon and he looks a little funny, he sounds funny AND he smells like pumpkin. Oh wait, it IS a pumpkin.

BOO!

Ken the pumpkin artiste. Okay so he traced them.
But let's not take his moment of pumpkin glory away.

McCartney Family Temple Day

On September 9, a few of us were able to meet in Brampton to do some work for Ken's Dad's family. Ken's Dad was sealed to his Mom, his Mom was sealed to her husband and her parents, and a child, David that died in infancy, was sealed to her as well. The flowers at the temple looked so beautiful, we just had to take some pictures!

The Chinese Lantern Festival

"The Rogers Chinese Lantern Festival lights up Toronto this summer with one of the most exciting displays of Chinese culture and craftsmanship ever to be seen in the Western hemisphere. The feature attraction is a dazzling display of 30 massive illuminated lanterns, created by over 80 Chinese master craftsmen!"

Ken and I finally got around to visiting the Chinese Lantern Festival on Friday evening. It was a beautiful night and we enjoyed wandering around by the lake and the lanterns. The artistry is incredible. The detail, the colours, the size of the lanterns... it was a sight to behold. I'm glad we finally went. Not only were there lanterns but there was a small marketplace set up. We bought some food which gave Ken the opportunity to speak Cantonese with some of the merchants.

Ken's favourite picture is the geese, mine is the flutist.

Check out the DINOSAURS!!

The Dragon

The Dragon's Tail

The dragon was a series of plates, spoons and tea cups wired together and lit up with strings of lights.

Wendy and the Pig

Okay so of course I have the whole pig thing going on, but in defence of who knows what, I wasn't the only person posing by the pig. During the course of the evening there was a constant stream of people posing with the pig!
