Fiona's Murder Mystery Party

Fiona wanted drama for her 11th birthday party and drama she got! The drama started last night, when after begging and begging her Dad to tell her, he told her! (Fiona wanted to know which character in her murder mystery party was the murderer.)

Important back story information to understand, Fiona chose the character Scarlet Red, the younger sister of the murder victim, Rita Red. Fiona chose the character because she was convinced that there was no way that the younger sister, the innocent younger sister could ever be the murderer. Fiona didn't completely understand the way a murder mystery party worked so getting her to accept that the parts were pre-written, the murderer was already decided, and that there was only one murder that happened before the party, that was work in and of itself.

Back to last night. Ken, had picked up Fiona and Alice from school. When they arrived back at home Fiona wanted to know which character was the murderer. When Ken informed her that it was her, she just about lost it, and Ken was so frustrated that he wanted to cancel the party! Over the course of the night Fiona began accepting that it would be okay and it mostly was!

The details of the murder mystery party - "The Million Dollar Mystery" that we purchased for the party. The kit included character details, scripts and a few things to be used as props.

When the suspects arrived at Mystery Manor they had their mug shot taken. The were all very smiley mug shots! (Except Scarlet - foreshadowing maybe?)
Scarlet Red - Rita's little sister, played by Fiona
Ruby Red, Rita's older sister, played by Victoria
Kelly Green, Rita's accountant, played by Aubrey
Mrs. Black, Rita's butler, played by Andrea
Dr. Turquoise, Rita's doctor, played by Amelia
Madame White, Rita's maid, played by Ryleigh
Chef Mustard, Rita's cook, played by Mercedes
Agent Mango, Rita's agent, played by Ariya

Alice played the host. When everyone was there they introduced themselves by reading their pre-written scripts.

We did part 1, 2 and half of part three and then had lunch. All the girls remained in character during lunch. It was hilarious!

After lunch it was time for the rest of the exhibits and the accusing. Each person wrote who they thought the murderer was and why.

Just realizing I never got a mug shot of Professor Periwinkle - the lawyer, played by Kate.

The final list of suspects is revealed...

As the point of the reveal got closer, Fiona got more and more anxious. She had to go to the bathroom several times... she really didn't want everyone to know that she was the murderer.

Alice's face after Fiona/Scarlet ran screaming from the room to go cry very loudly on the porch... Fiona was given a script to read where it was revealed that because she was the adopted sister, she didn't share the peanut allergy, and she was able to lace Rita's food with peanut, causing Rita to die from an anaphylaxis reaction. But, Fiona wouldn't read it properly and she said that the maid left out a broom, causing her to trip on the broom and then she accidentally killed her sister when she got struck by the broom in the head. Ken wouldn't let her get away with that, called her a murderer and then Fiona ran screaming from the room.

I told the kids at the party that Fiona didn't want to be the murderer and had chosen the part not knowing that she was the murderer. And that I hoped that they could help her be okay by telling her what a great actress she was. It didn't really work, but all of the girls went outside to love Fiona back inside to smash out all her feelings on the poor unsuspecting pinata!

Fiona wanted to open presents next, so she did.

Fiona's friends were all very generous. She was given several happy kid gift cards, cash, a cute stuffy, a game, an art kit and some epic Taylor Swift stuff. She was so excited!

Then it was time for cake. Fiona wanted a bunny cake and chef Daddy did not disappoint. Ken's bunny cake was epic.

It all came together, Fiona's friends are lovely, her Dad and sisters helped, and the party was an awesome success! Happy Birthday, we sure do love you Fiona!!!
