How long ago was April?! Too long? These are the thoughts and impressions that I felt to write down during the 188th General Conference of the church which took place March 31 and April 1, 2018.
President Nelson
- we must learn to receive revelation to navigate this world
- if thou shalt seek, thou shalt receive
- review the words that have been spoken
- set things aside so you can go to the temple
- minister, love
M. Russell Ballard - I can do all things in Christ, make the Sabbath a delight, never let the blessing of partaking become routine, Keep Christ at the centre of our lives
Brian K. Taylor - Mother's (young) - know that God sanctifies your most difficult days, pick up the Book of Mormon - read from its pages
Larry Echo Hawk - forgive others, forgive ourselves
Gary E. Stevenson - our new prophet works in repairing and healing hearts, offers correction in a positive loving manner, is an excellent teacher
Lynn G. Robbins - “Success isn’t the absence of failure, but going from failure to failure without any loss of enthusiasm.”, Nephi/Moses - they floundered and failed - why didn't they succeed on the first try?, we have countless second chances
Neil L. Andersen - much logic in following the prophet, "bloated boxes of entertainment" - so many voices clamoring for attention, Nelson - "I don't put question marks after what the prophet speaks, instead exclamation points"
David A. Bednar - Christlike quality - meekness, meekness is strong, active, courageous, restrained, modest, gracious, humility - dependence on God, meekness - receptivity to the Holy Ghost - can listen and learn from others - protection from pride
Taylor G. Godoy - one more day - use wisely the time we have, sacrifice - make things sacred
Bonnie L. Oscarson - each member should know how important they are, YW - every should be valued, feel valued and have service to give
Taniela B. Wakolo - casualness leads to casualties, what covenants do I need to make and keep sacred?
Devin G. Durrant - never released from being a parent, FHE, family prayer, acts and attitudes of obedience, read scriptures, Be a better and consistent teacher - mostly through example
Dale G. Renlund - Family History/Temple work - power to heal that which needs healing, prayers will be answered as you do family history and temple work, (Kate - family history work), "God will strengthen, help, and uphold us; and He will sanctify to us our deepest distress. When we gather our family histories and go to the temple on behalf of our ancestors, God fulfills many of these promised blessings simultaneously on both sides of the veil." (I need to go to the temple regularly)
Larry Y Wilson - Old Testament word for repent - turn around, we need to know the voice in calm, so in a storm the voice is unmistakable
Reyna I. Aburto - although each butterfly is different, they work together to make the world a more beautiful and fruitful place.
Massimo De Feo - True disciples of Christ - pure love
Claudio D. Zivic - endure and you shall triumph - daily prayer, daily scripture reading, serve, partake weekly of the sacrament
Henry B. Eyring - the Holy Ghost - your choice whether or not you let him in, the blessing of the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost
Dallin H. Oaks - the power of small and simple things - list of things - how we spend our time, how we treat each other, what are the small and simple things I do everyday?
Gerrit W. Gong - we can be knit together in unity and love, I reverently witness of Jesus Christ
Ulisses Soares - comforting to know we are not alone, testify of Christ - I love him, I adore him
Jeffrey R. Holland - institutions mature, then individuals mature, watch over and nourish each other in righteousness, be motivated by the pure love of Christ to care for each other, we need to help answer prayers, dry eyes, and strengthen feeble knees
Jean B. Bingham - smiled, talked, walked with - simple acts of love and service - we need to strive to be like our Savior by caring for each other, ministering accomplished one by one
Deiter F. Uchtdorf - what day changed the world - the Atonement
Gerald Causse - Ballard - are we active in the gospel or busy in the church, find those people you can help and bless - it won't be about you - it will be about them
Quentin L. Cook - where do I stand in fulfilling divinely appointed responsibilities - righteousness, unity, equality before the Lord, missionary work, family life, temple/family history work - IF we are accountable to God, we would repent, read our scriptures and turn to God
