Fiona's 8th Birthday

I decorated the table before I went to bed.

Fiona had presents from her Mom and Dad, her sisters, her uncle Andrew and her primary leaders. She loved opening all her presents!

Ken made birthday pancakes!

Fiona wanted a Duplo cake, and she had very strict instructions for how she wanted it to look. Ken made her cake the way she wanted it (half pink and half purple) and she loved it! The blue and white tiles spell out Duplo.

Grandma and CJ came to wish Fiona happy birthday. We stayed in the backyard for the visit. Alice played chess with Grandma. Grandma made a lap blanket for Fiona, and she gave her some money.
CJ took it upon himself to strengthen our beach umbrella.

As a funny aside... Ken and I were sitting in the backyard at one point and the dog was pretty hyper. He came running and jumped on the trampoline, bearing his teeth. It looked really funny.
Then he came down off the trampoline and barked and barked and barked at me and I had no idea why he was barking. I stood up to kind of go to him and see what was wrong, and he jumped in my chair, cheeky Milo!
Fiona picked waffles for dinner on her birthday. Ken made yummy gluten free waffles, and regular waffles.
Watching Fiona try to blow out the candles was hilarious! She blew and blew and blew and giggled and couldn't blow properly. We were all laughing so much!

Alice loves pulling faces in the background lol. The girls loved the cake. We had a happy, happy day today! Fiona is the so often the sunshine in our family with lots of laughter and giggles.

The next big Fiona event will be her baptism. We've been talking about it for a while, but we're not any further along in the planning. Fiona desperately wants Hazel and her family to be there, but with numbers the way they are now, we wouldn't have room for any family. We're hoping that things will open up soon and we can have a baptism with friends and family!

This now officially ends birthdays for the year for our family. I think it's funny that we're all in the first half of the year! We love you Fiona, Fifi, Fifi-lona!

Fiona's Birthday - The Playdate Parties

Last year on Fiona's birthday we were on the cusp of re-opening after our first lockdown. We planned a backyard party with our friends thinking that it was the beginning of officially bubbling with another family. We jumped the gun a little on being official, and the backyard surprise party turned into an inside party too, but Fiona had fun and it felt good.

This year we're not officially opened up yet, but it's coming. Vaccination rates are going up and up and covid infection rates are falling. Ken and I talked about maybe having a backyard party with both of Fiona's friends, but I wasn't sure. We opted instead for one backyard party playdate, and one park birthday playdate.

We decorated the backyard a little. Alice made this awesome banner for Fiona. She worked on it all week.

Fiona got a card from Hazel in the mail, it came yesterday. Fiona put it aside to open tomorrow. On her real birthday, and not before.
I got a few balloons from party city. They are not properly set up for online/curb side shopping, but everything got worked out, and even though it was a little confusing, the staff were great!
It was cute, when Sophia got there she and Fiona immediately went into the air fort - I think it was pretty cool - shaded with a fan. It was so so so hot today, and I wasn't sure how Sophia's Mom would feel about Sophia coming inside, but she was fine with it - yay! So after spending a few minutes in the air fort, the girls sought refuge in the a/c and Fiona gave Sophia a tour of the house.
The official outside birthday balloon pic.
Ken went and picked up pizza pizza. The girls had fruit and chips and pizza, and then it was scavenger hunt time. Eating pics are usually so awkward so I told the girls to puff out their cheeks. I'm not sure that was any less awkward, but they're so cute so who cares!
After lunch it was scavenger hunt time. Alice and I made a scavenger hunt for Fiona and Sophia. Each clue led them to the next location. All of the locations were outside.

The final clue led to the BBQ and we were going to hide their treats in there, but it was way too dirty, so we just handed them their treat bags inside!
It was then sing Happy Birthday cupcake time.

After that Fiona and Sophia went upstairs and Fiona opened her present and they played until Sophia's Mom came to get her. Fiona had an awesome time! And I think Sophia enjoyed herself too.
Fiona likes that an eight is an infinity symbol.

Later in the afternoon the Mom of Fiona's other best friend at school messaged to say they were back from Niagara Falls earlier than expected, did we want to meet up this evening? Originally Fiona and Andrea were going to play at the park on Monday night, but we happily agreed to meet up.

Andrea and Fiona have been best buds since JK. They were in class together for JK/SK and were in aftercare together for grade 1 - at least until Covid. They've always gotten along so well. Fiona and Andrea had fun running around the park. The two of them don't stop moving.

Fiona usually gets so excited anticipating events that she doesn't enjoy the event. We had a heart to heart this morning about that, and she really just relaxed and had fun today. She was really happy! We love you Fiona!
