The Robot Party

It might have been December that Alice told me she wanted a cat party for her next birthday. I thought it was weird, and I put her off because it was December! Then just before, or just after Kate's party Alice said she wanted a Robot Party. I asked her about the cat thing and she said that was just because she thought it would make Fiona happy, but she didn't really like cats. I told her we still had lots of time to think about it and that we should wait a little and see if she still wanted a Robot Party.

At the beginning of February when it was time to pick a date and think about a guest list, she was set, a Robot Party, and so we had one! Silver decorations, robot loot bags, a decorate the robot blind-folded game, and the pièce de résistance - a Robot Cake made by Maurie. (Thanks Grandma for getting such a special cake for Alice!)

We invited Scarlett (our neighbour and friend from church), four friends from Alice's class, Holden, Lauren and of course, our three girls! Three of the four friends from school were able to come, Violet, Shiloh and Brianna. We marathon cleaned all last night and this morning, and earlier in the week Alice, Fiona and I shopped during Activity Days. This morning we did a little decorating after the cleaning, and we were ready to go!

Activity #1 was to decorate our Robot Loot bags. They were pretty cute, but I underestimated the amount of glitter glue that would be used, and therefore did not plan adequate drying time... oops.
Activity #2 was to play decorate the robot blind-folded. Kate wanted to be in charge of this and so she was. It was pretty cute. I was distracted, and forgot to take pictures, so I took a picture of Kate and the finished product.
Activity #3 was the pinata. I'm a little sad that I didn't even attempt to make one, but I'm also okay with the fact that I work full time and my life is full! We found a transformer pinata at Bulk Barn and Alice thought it was perfect.

Then the kids played while Ken went to pick up the pizza, and then it was food.

 And the cake!

After the cake Alice sat and opened her presents. She was very happy.

I just asked Alice what her favourite part of the party was, "eating cake". It was fun, and oddly enough, peaceful! Happy Birthday again Alice! We love you!

Alice's Birthday

She wanted to wear a special outfit today. I love that she likes wearing dresses. I think it's so cute. (I don't really care for dresses myself, so part of it is that I like that she is an independent thinker.)  I told her I needed to take some pictures of her. And she wouldn't let me finish until she'd done a few different poses, including over the shoulder!

Alice chose spaghetti and meatballs for dinner, and she managed to stay mostly clean - GO ALICE! We completed the birthday questions during the meal. After dinner Alice, Fiona and I went to the mall to pick out a present. She said she wanted something remote control or a robot. (She's having a robot party on Saturday.) We walked into Mastermind, and I walked to the science area, but not before Alice saw the Hatchimals. This past Christmas Hatchimals were 'the' toy. Alice wanted one for Christmas and they were sold out everywhere. Ken and I told her that if she still really wanted one in February we would get one for her birthday.

We looked at a mouse robot and we took ten steps away from it and Alice turned and said, "I just want a Hatchimal". And so it was. She happily picked out a pink one. To me, the funniest part was when she asked for it to be wrapped up!

While we were out Kate and Ken iced the cupcakes. When we got home Alice opened her present - and surprise surprise, it was a Hatchimal! She held her egg Then we followed the instructions until Emily hatched. There was a lot of rubbing and patting the egg. It's eyes glowed different colours depending on its needs.

After Emily hatched we sang happy birthday, ate cupcakes and it was time for bed. Alice was also the special person at her school today, and yesterday was a holiday. All in all, a pretty fantastic birthday! We love our Alice!

Family Day - part 2

I wanted to drive into the country - north, Ken suggested east. I wanted away from people and away from stuff. I wanted trees and fields. Kate didn't want to be outside. She said "I'm not going anywhere unless it's the zoo." Ken and I thought, well, we could do that. Alice voted zoo, and then Fiona voted zoo, and that was that.

There were so many people. I didn't want to be near people. But it all worked out. We all had a fun zoo visit. I love having a pass because then we can duck in and out and not feel put out - especially now that we live so close, but we really haven't been going that often anymore. I'm not sure that we'll renew the pass right away, maybe we'll wait until the Science Centre pass expires. It makes me sad to think about though, man I sure do love the zoo; so many years and years and years of happy memories!

Fiona was tired, Alice was tired, heck we were all tired, but we still managed to have a fun trip, and I got to go to Africa! I've been wanting to go the last few visits, but the kids votes seemed to outweigh mine.

When I took the picture of Alice and Kate, I said there it is girls, this is what it's all about, loving each other. They were so cute. I am so thankful for my family. And for family day!

And of course, where would we end the day?! Earlier this afternoon Fiona and I had the following conversation:

Fiona: (Whispering) Are we going on an adventure?
Me: (Whispering back) Do you want to go on an adventure?
Fiona: (Huge smile, still whispering) I want to go to McDonald's on an adventure!

So we went to McDonald's on Kingston Rd, just east of Sheppard.

I am so thankful for my beautiful family! What a happy Monday!
