Sometimes I see this sweet little face with these inquisitive eyes looking at me.
And sometimes there's screaming.

Kate is 4 1/2 (Any excuse for cupcakes!)
When you're 4 the half is a big deal!! New family tradition. Ceremonial blowing out of candle and eating of cupcakes on your half birthday day! (Oh and we were one day late...not necessarily part of the tradition. )

While I was breastfeeding...
Today's lesson on how to be an awesome mom like me... ways to occupy your two year old while you are nursing. Kate wanted to paint. This can be dangerous, but what definitely qualifies as dangerous, Alice painting unsupervised. It didn't start out unsupervised, because I wasn't nursing when she started painting. When the baby started fussing and I knew I needed to nurse I promptly stopped thinking about painting and only thought of nursing.
I suppose I could have sat at the kitchen table to nurse, but that isn't comfortable. The chairs don't have arm rests and I don't have a nursing pillow. I opted for the couch, it's comfy. Once I was settled and nursing I completely forgot about the two year old that was painting at the table. I kind of enjoy the sleepy relaxed fog I enter when I'm nursing. It feels nice, but isn't always the space you want to be in when there are other little people around. The four year old came over to chat and I continued to nurse and forget about the two year old.
Fiona finished nursing and then I looked over across the room at the table. There was Alice, covered in paint. I'm glad she was only wearing a diaper! Today nursing and painting was followed by a bath.

The Omran Dress
I've taught all three of their children. The youngest graduated from grade 8 this year, and the oldest, she finished her first year of university at McGill. I first taught her when she was in a 4/5 class and she was a grade 5 student. It has been fun to work in the same community for so long and teach so many amazing children. Okay, now for the fun - the first compare all three babies post.
When I was pregnant with Kate the Omran family gave us a boy outfit and a girl outfit. When I was pregnant with Alice they gave us a boy outfit. When I was pregnant with Fiona they opted for a stuffed animal - safer choice! Here then are all three girls in the Omran Dress!

Fiona is One Month Old
What a busy whirlwind of a month it has been! We are so excited you're here and part of our family. You make our family complete. We love you Miss Fiona!
Tottenham Community Week Street Festival
FUN! We had fun! The girls had so much fun enjoying pony rides, cotton candy, the swings, and motorized bikes, and the only things we had to pay for were the hotdogs we ate for lunch and the ice cream. Everything else was free. It was a hot day but not excruciating. I enjoyed watching the girls have so much fun. I think the highlight for both me and Ken was watching Kate on the motorized bike. She crashed into some other kids several times and we thought perhaps that she didn't understand that she needed to lift her foot off the gas to stop. That was until we watched her park and she pulled up to the wall without hitting it. It was just generally fun watching because all the little kids were crashing into each other and the attendants were scrambling to keep them sorted out. The whole event was really well done. Good on Tottenham!!

Fiona is 4 weeks old
Today we went to do the "after" shot at Emily's. She took a picture of me sitting on her bed holding the bump and today we did the shot of the bump on the outside. She also took a few random shots of Fiona and since Fiona is 4 weeks old today, ta-da! Cute shots!

Canada Day!
When we fail to make plans we usually fail to do anything! We made plans to go have dinner with Andrew at the Keg at 4p.m. and that was all we planned. So that is what we did. The girls did have a fun day hanging out at home, even if Ken and I were a little bored. And of course they looked very cute in their Canadian duds. (Thank you Andrew and Mom and Dad for an awesome meal at the Keg!)
We also planned to watch the fireworks in Tottenham, which we did. The girls love fireworks. They were so excited. It was awesome. I didn't really reflect very much about being Canadian today, but I do think about it often. I am so blessed to live in this country, to enjoy the peace and the freedoms that I do. I am also grateful to be raising my daughters in this country.
