March Break

Monday 13 - a day trip to London
My dear friend Shawn moved officially to London in December. She and her husband Sean bought the cutest house and were finally able to move in at the beginning of December - if I remember correctly! They had been living with family since the summer and had been house hunting before that. We hadn't seen Shawn and Cooper since October, so it was time for a visit and I was excited to see their house. I had thought we might do a sleep over but I didn't plan very well. I should have planned earlier with Shawn, but I didn't. Her only free day was Monday and I booked dentist appointments on Tuesday, so we drove down in the morning and left after dinner.

Shawn and I had a fun day chatting. Kate and Cooper played video games pretty much the entire time. Alice and Fiona played with each other and hung out with Shawn and I. I felt badly for Alice at the end of the day because she had really wanted to play and Shawn and I just wanted to chat so we didn't "make" the kids actually play. Ah well... next time! Spending time with dear friends is always so very refreshing and good for the soul.

It had snowed all day and the drive home wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible. The roads were mostly track bare. It was just slower and longer. It took us three hours to make it home. BUT still worth every minute!

Tuesday 14 - dentist and quiet
As it turns out this would be dentist visit number one of the week. Fiona's teeth have been stressing me out for ages. The cavities are getting worse and well, they are just bad news. Fiona would barely let them look in her mouth, but then finally did. I lay down in the dentist chair with Fiona on top of me. She received a referral to another dentist. Yay.

I also wanted Kate to get checked out because of her bottom teeth. She's got the shark teeth going on, again. I was hoping that a tooth could be pulled and then her adult tooth would move to the right place... no such luck. The dentist said that we'd have to pull two teeth, but that wouldn't guarantee anything. She said, that Kate will have to have braces anyway, so either way it will be a mess, and the dentist said, no point putting her through the torture of pulling teeth now, when we can just put off the fun until later. I'm so thankful for my dental benefits!

Kate's favourite part of today, the massage chairs in the dental office.
Wednesday 15 - quiet morning, cleaning afternoon, dinner fun
The house was a disaster and we were having the Stahler family over for dinner. No one felt like doing anything in the morning, so we didn't. Then all afternoon I was begging and threatening for help cleaning up. We eventually got the house clean. Ken came home and made an awesome dinner. The Stahler's came over, the kids played and had so much fun, and I didn't take one picture darn it!

Thursday 16 - epic play date, dentist trip #2, cupcakes, and girls night
Last Sunday Janelle and I talked about making plans this week. At first it was going to be a simple play date at her house, then it was have a few moms over too, then it was let's meet at the church and invite all of the moms. So we did. It was potluck, we met around 10 and the kids played, and played and played. We were the last to leave and we didn't leave until 2 - or just after two. The women in our ward are fun, there is a wide range of experiences, age, and number of children among us. It was great talking to people and getting to know people better. I took a few pictures.

Debbie Penney brought her parachute and the kids had so much fun playing. It so cute. Crystal Rogness brought an archery set, which Kate loved, but sadly by the time I'd gotten around to taking pictures it had been put away. The kids had so much fun playing. We really had a great time.

We ran home to quickly go to the bathroom, have a minute, brush Fiona's teeth and then we were off to Dentist #2. This dental office was just for kids and the girls loved the waiting room. Fiona laid down on me in the chair again, and was really good at being cooperative. The dentist was really great. Fiona now has a sleep dentist appointment at Scarborough Grace Hospital in May. Everyone in the dental office was great. I'm not excited about the whole thing, and the feelings of guilt and confusion about her teeth - I don't know where to begin, but again, I'm just so thankful for my dental benefits.

We walked across the street to the cutest cupcake shop, and Fiona and Alice picked out cupcakes, Kate a sugar cookie and we went home to have dinner. And then it was girls night for me. Olivia Jenner hosted and Holly, Karla and Janelle were there. It was actually supposed to be book club. But it would seem that this was of the literacy optional variety. We were going to watch a movie, but we didn't even do that. It was a fun night!

Friday 17 - Purple Woods Maple Syrup Festival, White Feather, Ken and Wendy Temple Trip
Ken took the day today (yay) and we went to Purple Woods Conservation area in north Oshawa for their maple syrup festival. It was great. We started out with pancakes and then we walked around. They had lots of stuff to see and do. The weather was great today, not too cold, and really sunny. I think the horse drawn wagon ride was my favourite part. That and the maple syrup in snow candy. Yum!
We stopped in at the White Feather Country store for lunch! Yum! And we visited with the baby chicks.

Before we knew it, we were almost running late. It was home again, then getting ready and off to pick up the babysitter. Ken and I left to go to the temple.
We remembered when we were inside, away from our phones, that we had forgotten to order pizza for the children. Oops. We're awesome parents. Our wonderful babysitter put two and two together and Alison made macaroni and cheese! Thank goodness! After leaving the temple and checking in on the kidlets (and Alison) Ken and I went to this awesome Thai restaurant in the east end of Toronto.  It was a lovely day!

Saturday 18 - Taco Time Taunia/Darby play date, Grandma and Grandpa time
Taco Time is a chain fast food Mexican restaurant that is mostly found in Alberta. Taunia discovered a few short weeks ago that low and behold there was a location in Ajax of all places. I reached out and said hey, let's play, and so we did. Well, we all met at Taco Time, had a yummy lunch and then Taunia and Darby came over. Darby and Kate played really well.  They had lots of fun. It's cute that they've known each other since they were babies!

After Taunia and Darby left we packed everyone up and headed over to Grandma and Grandpa's. We had a dip in the pool and Swiss Chalet for dinner. We had a nice visit.

Sunday 19 - Church, Choir Practice and done
It was a good, somewhat quiet week. It was what we all needed. Enough fun and quiet to feel refreshed. I had my first choir practice for the Easter Cantata. I'm the choir pianist. Life is good. Rich and full and happy, and I am very thankful for the weeks that I have off with my girls, so very grateful.

Papa McCartney Turns 70

Sweet Laura decided that she would host a surprise party for her Dad on Saturday evening, and so she did. It was a lovely get together. We weren't there quite on time and missed the surprise, but we had a lovely time visiting with family. We skyped with Jen and Eric in Rabat - they only have a few weeks left in Morocco, and they will be relocating to Tokyo, Japan, which is really exciting for them, oh and they just bought a piece of property in Greece!

We ate pizza, and snacks, and had cake and enjoyed being family. The little girls played in the closet, there were presents, and all was well! Thank you Laura for being an excellent host and for having the idea to celebrate your Dad in the first place.

The Dad aka Grandpa Turns 77

The girls had their first day of March Break today - lucky ducks! Uncle Andrew - the best uncle ever, decided that he would spend his day off with his nieces. He slept over after going to a movie with Ken the night before and was woken up bright and early in our busy house.

The girls had lots of fun with their uncle. The built an epic blanket fort, met some friends with dogs, went to McDonald's, and then they were brought to Grandma and Grandpa's to swim and celebrate Grandpa's Birthday.

I should start asking Dad some funny old people birthday questions! He was so cute with Kate when it was time to blow out the candles. He kept telling her she needed to help him. He did one blow and said in a funny pathetic voice "I just don't have air, I need your help", and Kate gladly helped. We had a nice night.

When I got home I wrote the following on Facebook:
Happy birthday to my Daddy. Lucky 77 today. So many of my memories growing up are of Dad in the kitchen. We were awful doing our chores. It was pretty much a guarantee that if you left the dishes long enough Dad would do them. He always cleaned up the kitchen, every night. He always helped around the house, and usually with a smile while singing to himself. He's always been a happy guy. I love you Dad!
