Fiona's Birthday Party

I forget how emotional birthdays can be. Fiona was in tears a lot last night, and today didn't really start any better. It didn't help that Alice and Fiona were up in the night last night and that they couldn't sleep.

I decorated before I went to bed last night, and left one present on the table for Fiona and a card.

Fiona got dressed and we took some more pictures.

Because Fiona wouldn't be able to have a real birthday party I bought presents for her sisters to give to her.

The cake in process!

The cake masterpiece!

Pretty much right on time the Lim-Anderson's showed up. I let it be a surprise for all the girls! They were so excited. The plan was to stay in the backyard, crack the pinata, eat cake, be done. The best laid plans...

They gave her a Hair Goals L.O.L.

Hazel and Fiona are such good friends! They are such cute little monkeys!

The pinata was pretty crazy. Alice and Fiona helped me make it, and because I had other things to do, I kind of left them to it. The pinata was not very thick, and the kids are bigger and stronger! Fiona had a couple of good hits.

Hazel gave it a huge crack.
Alice - you could tell she's been practicing her swing - she gave it an awesome crack.
The one hit for Lauren.
And Kate exploded it.
Poor Holden didn't get a real hit, so we let him destroy what was left! I'm not sure this was quite enough - I felt badly!
Then the kids ate their candy.

And they all kept eating candy so we interrupted them to present the cake. There was quite a breeze and Ken had a heck of a time lighting the candles because they kept blowing out.

After the kids ate cake they all disappeared and we let them. They played and played and had such a great time.
We called Fiona outside to see Grandma. This was the first time the girls hugged Mom since Dad's birthday dinner in March. It's been too long!

We didn't follow the rules today. I feel a little weird, but not. We've been really careful and we've followed the rules for three months. We had anticipated that we would be allowed to "bubble" by now. Emily and I have agreed we will bubble together - our families will hang out. Today was a lovely day, a day that felt really normal. I'm grateful for our Fiona. She's strong and sweet and funny and playful and determined and strong willed and energetic. She's ours and our family would not be complete without her!
