Manitoulin Trip - Misery Bay/Providence Bay/Gore Bay - Day Three

The day of Bays!  The water, everywhere, there is water.  It is so calming and so peaceful.  Our first stop was Misery Bay.  Supposedly when the surveyors were out making the map, they stopped some locals on the shore who were having a bad day, and Misery Bay was named.  There was a really great interpretive centre surrounded by trails.  We took the shortest trail to the beach after spending some time in the interpretive centre with the really awesome volunteers that were there.

The walk to the beach was a big competition for Kate and Alice.  Fiona wouldn't walk so I carried her most of the way.  It was .62 kms to the beach, and though there was some snarking, the girls were generally in good spirits on the way there...

The above were fakes - no real misery was involved, but the hike back... "hike", Kate just about lost her mind, and Fiona fell asleep in my arms.  Sometimes I'm not sure why I'm against baby carriers!

Next up, Providence Bay.  We had a nice drive over, so much pretty island to see.  Our first stop was lunch at Lake Huron Fish n Chips.  The white fish was out of this world.  SO GOOD!
After our yummy lunch, Alice, Fiona and I walked around the corner to the beach.  Ken, Ken, Kate and Chris drove over and we played!  And played!  It was fun going back.  The last time we were there Kate was 18 months and had taken her first steps earlier the same day.  She walked all over that beach.

2010

The playground has been updated - so awesome, and the kids built a sand castle with Nana.  We watched the fog roll in and out and generally enjoyed ourselves.

We eventually made our way into the little museum, walked along the board walk, and then had some really yummy ice cream.  I was a little sad that the museum part had been updated.  I wanted to take the same picture of Kate and the coyote - but this works too!

After our little walk and while enjoying our ice cream we met Lea and her Mom Nathalie - owners of the ice cream shop and the Aubergine Inn which is just up the street.  Lea was a little darling - 15 months old, and she and the girls had a really awesome 20 minutes of friendship while I had a really lovely chat with her mother.

Next up, drive to Gore Bay for dinner.  We were going to get pizza to take home, but then we decided to sit down for dinner instead as the place was open longer than we thought.  The food took forever, and the girls nearly lost their minds (so did we for that matter), but the food was good, and all's well that ends well?

After a quick trip down the block to the convenience store - Fiona and I waited on a bench, we just had to drive to the look out.  Kate tried desperately to be a tree in an effort to get a moth to land on her.  Didn't work, but she tried!  Oh yes, and Kate did in fact eat at the restaurant wearing her bathing suit - it was dry, and she did tell our server all about it.

Then home for baths and a grand surprise!  SPARKLERS!  The girls had never played with sparklers before.  They had lots of fun, so much that I don't even think they minded the bug bites.

Manitoulin Trip - Sudbury/Ice Lake - Day Two

Noon check out is awesome.  It meant a relaxing breakfast, a relaxing swim, and then a relaxing time getting read to go!  Fiona fell asleep just before we left, so we had drive thru for lunch, did a quick drive by the nickel, and then it was off to the Island!

We took our time driving - it was raining pretty good a few times, and we had two bathroom breaks?  I think?  We finally got to Ken and Chris's around 4?  Maybe just before?  The girls were excited to explore the garden, the flowers and say hello to the animals - and somewhere in there, Nana and Papa!

The girls settled in, staked out their room, played, watched tv and Ken got down to the business of updating the computers.  We had hot dogs and hamburgers for dinner, and salad fresh out of the garden!  Tomorrow we explore the Island!
